# VPS and web hosting

Your servers and your hosting each have their own section in the client area: **VPS** and **Web hosting**. They appear as soon as you order, while the service is being prepared.

## Your VPS

The **VPS** section shows one card per server:

| Information                           | What it shows                                      |
| ------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| status | **Being prepared**, **Running** or **Suspended** |
| **System** | the installed system, for example Ubuntu or Debian |
| **Resources** | the processors (vCPU), the memory and the disk |
| **In service since** | the date the server went into service |
| **IPv4 address** and **IPv6 address** | your server's addresses, as soon as it is running |
| **SSH connection** | the connection command, ready to copy |

The connection command has the form `ssh -p PORT user@address`: copy it into your computer's terminal.

### Adding your SSH keys

Your VPS opens with your **SSH key**, which you add yourself. The account owner and managers have access to this.

1. No key yet? On your computer, run `ssh-keygen -t ed25519`, then open the file ending in `.pub`: that is your **public** key.
2. In the server's card, paste your public keys into **Your public keys, one per line**.
3. Click **Save the keys**.

Your keys are installed on the server within a minute, and the card shows it with their fingerprint. Added during preparation, they are installed when the server is created.

* Up to **10 keys**, of type ed25519, RSA (at least 2048 bits), ECDSA, and hardware security keys.
* Each save **replaces** the whole set of keys: paste all the ones you want to keep. It is also how you replace a lost key.
* Only the **public** key is added. Your private key stays on your computer and is shared with no one, our team included.

### Backups, snapshots and assistance (VPS Pro)

* Your VPS Pro is fully backed up every night, and each backup is kept for **seven days**. You request a restore from support, choosing the night.
* You can request a **snapshot** before a major update, free of charge, and it is kept for up to seven days.
* **Full-Stack Assistance** is included: describe what you observe, and our team diagnoses with you, from the server up to your application.
* Your server moves up to a larger size at any time, without reinstalling: your data stays in place.

All the documentation for your server, from the SSH connection to putting your applications online, lives in [the VPS Pro space](https://docs.simafri.com/en/vps-pro/).

## Your web hosting

The **Web hosting** section shows one card per hosting account: its domain, its plan and its status, **Being prepared**, **Active** or **Suspended**. Once it is active:

| Information          | What it shows                                                         |
| -------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Control panel** | the address of your panel (DirectAdmin), <https://web1.simafri.cloud> |
| **Login**            | your panel login                                                      |
| **In service since** | the date the hosting went into service |

### Getting the panel password

1. In the card, click **Get my password**, then later **New password** to change it.
2. Confirm: the old password will stop working.
3. Note the password shown: it is shown only once, and it works on your panel within a minute.

The account owner and managers have access to this. The password is shown in your space and handed to you alone: it stays out of email.

### What your panel does

* your sites, your subdomains and your HTTPS certificates;
* your MySQL databases, with phpMyAdmin;
* your email accounts and your FTP accounts;
* your scheduled tasks (cron) and your backups;
* your DNS records: **Account Manager** section, then **DNS Management**, for the domains that use the name servers `ns1.web1.simafri.cloud` and `ns2.web1.simafri.cloud`;
* SSH access, with the key you add there.

To install an application, WordPress for example, write to [support](/en/espace-client/support.md): our team installs it for you.

### What your hosting runs

* **PHP**, in several versions to choose per domain;
* **MySQL**;
* **Composer**, **Git**, **Node.js** and **npm** on the command line, over SSH;
* PHP frameworks such as **Symfony** and **Laravel**, and CMSs such as **WordPress**, **PrestaShop**, **Joomla** and **Drupal**;
* an **Angular**, **React** or **Vue** front end, built then served as static files.

For an application that runs continuously (a Node.js server, a PostgreSQL database, a worker), the right offer is the VPS, where you install whatever your application needs.

### A free domain name

With a plan paid yearly, a domain name is offered free for the first year, depending on the plan and the extension. It appears in the **Domains** section, then renews at the domain's rate (see [Your domain names](/en/espace-client/domaines.md)).

## Frequently asked questions

### The panel does not open at the address I noted.

Use the address shown in your card, <https://web1.simafri.cloud>, with no port number at the end.

### How do I connect to my VPS from Windows?

Windows 10 and 11 include an SSH client: open PowerShell or the Terminal, and paste the **SSH connection** command from your card. Your key is created the same way, with `ssh-keygen -t ed25519`.

### A question about a server or a hosting account?

Each VPS card carries a **Contact us** link, and the [Support](/en/espace-client/support.md) section is open at any time.
