Your mail software
A Simafri Suite mailbox reads and writes from Apple Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird or your phone's Mail app, alongside the web interface. One user name and one password open both halves of the account.
1. Create an application password
On suite.simafri.com, open Mail settings for the mailbox concerned, Mail software section:
- name the device or the software, for example
My laptop; - click Create;
- copy the password right away: it is shown once.
One password per piece of software: a lost laptop is settled by revoking its line, without touching anything else. You can hold up to 20 at a time.
This password opens your mailboxes. To put your calendar and contacts on a device, create one from Devices (see Calendar and contacts).
2. Enter the settings
| Incoming mail (IMAP) | Outgoing mail (SMTP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Server | imap.simafri.com | mta.simafri.cloud |
| Port | 993 | 587 |
| Security | SSL/TLS | STARTTLS |
| User name | the mailbox address | the mailbox address |
| Password | the application password | the application password |
The user name is the address of the mailbox you are reading, for example contact@yourcompany.com, and not the address you sign in to the website with.
Most software fills these lines in on its own from the address; the table above gives the exact values for the ones that ask.
3. Check what arrives
Your six folders arrive named, and your software branches its own Sent, Drafts, Trash and Spam onto yours. What you archive from the software is archived on the web too, and the other way round.
What you send from the software goes out through the Simafri relay, with your domain's DKIM signature, and is filed in Sent.
Disconnecting a device
In Mail settings, each line shows when it was last used. Revoke cuts that device and only that one; everything it has already collected stays in the mailbox.
Good to know
- The same password serves both halves, incoming and outgoing: software that asks for two takes the same one twice.
- The sending limits apply from software as well: a refusal comes back in plain words in your own client, with its reason.
- To bring over a history from another provider, open a migration window first: Moving a mailbox in.
